Still a work in progress, these pieces are hand-built, open vessels with light emanating from the inside reaching upward. While watching the twin towers smolder for weeks from the back windows of my studio, these pieces emerged from an absolute necessity to release all the emotions pushing through me. Wanting to make these light holders for some time, I was forced to do so at that moment. They are one step away from Raku firing. Looking brilliant as they do now in their raw clay and stain stage, I spent this past two years debating a further step. I believe I will soon put them into a raku firing to see how the mystical fire will transform them. I will share the results with you when the task is complete. Surely there will be more light holders to follow, as this is just the beginning of a new series. |
