Whereby the Temples and Vessels have a somewhat masculine feeling, the Chalices are quite feminine. Wheel thrown sections are assembled with hand-built alterations and metal bits infused into the clay to give a completely ancient experience. Viewers have thought these pieces to be dug from the ruins of some thousand-year-old culture, buried deeply into the earth. They certainly give the imagination this sensation with their markings and lusters of coppers, blues and silvers mingled with the blackened tones of the raw clay. Ritualistic in nature, the challis can also be seen as a Grail, symbol of Mystery and Knowledge. |
